THE DOURO ESTUARY IS ONE OF THE MOST PRIVILEGED LOCATIONS FOR BIRD WATCHING IN PORTUGAL, OFFERING A REFUGE FOR COUNTLESS SPECIES THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. LOCATED BETWEEN THE CITY OF PORTO AND THE CITY OF VILA NOVA DE GAIA, THIS UNIQUE ECOSYSTEM PROVIDES STUNNING LANDSCAPES AND AN INCOMPARABLE OBSERVATION EXPERIENCE.
During birdwatching tours in the Douro Estuary, participants will have the opportunity to explore an area rich in biodiversity, where they can see a variety of aquatic and land birds. Species such as stilts, great herons, black-necked plovers and cormorants are just some of the birds that can be seen in this region. Observers will learn to identify different species, understand their behaviors and the importance of the estuary as a crucial habitat for nesting, feeding and migrating birds. Equipped with binoculars and field guides, participants will be taken to the best observation points, maximizing sighting opportunities. In addition, the tours include informative sessions on bird conservation and the preservation of estuarine ecosystems. This program is ideal for all nature lovers who want to deepen their knowledge of local birdlife and enjoy an engaging and educational day in the estuary.

Everyone is welcome, observation tours are aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about wildlife and observe the different species in a particular region. The guide will explain more about the different species we will observe, as well as their importance to ecosystems.
Before the tour, in the pre-tour briefing and throughout the walk, you will have the opportunity to discuss more about species observation. I will give you several tips to make the most of the tour and you are free to ask any questions.
