Photo Expedition
Become a master of wildlife photography
MASTER CLASS
5 days from
1.900 €
up to 6 persons
A LAND OF HEAT, WATER AND SAND, THE ALGARVE IS SYNONYMOUS OF HOLIDAYS. BUT ALSO PRESERVES A UNIQUE BIODIVERSITY. BETWEEN THE TRADITION AND THE GREEN OF THE GOLF COURSES, THERE IS A NATURAL WORLD TO EXPLORE.
The masterclass is aimed at only one person, with the main objective of individual follow-up and directed to the participant over the course of a year! The masterclass will take place in the Lisbon region and the Alentejo region, which are two places I know and visit very often. In both places the climate is very dynamic, which allows you to photograph in different conditions and approach different techniques, as well as serving as inspiration to create different photographs than usual. There is the possibility of making longer trips, however, travel and subsistence expenses are added for these cases. There is a wide variety of animals to photograph in these locations. During these 12 months we will work on your photography but also on post-production to make the most of each photograph. In the field, we will try to approach the various techniques of approaching the fauna, spend long hours inside portable shelters and some fixed shelters, and also explore the aspect of macrophotography where the possibilities are infinite, exploring the aspect of photography but also the importance of conservation to eyes of a biologist. In post-production, we will address topics such as the organization of your photos, the selection of the best ones, the entire image editing process and also their sharing, placement of the watermark and their printing. You will end up with a portfolio that you will be proud to show and share, but you will also gain field knowledge.

Experience Level
Since its inception, the Photographing the World series has taken photographers to some of the most beautiful locations around the world with landscape photographer Elia Locardi. Part educational photography tutorial video and part cultural adventure, Photographing the World has not only showcased some of Elia's most popular shooting and photo editing techniques but it also lets you experience the life of a full-time photographer who has made an incredible career out of travel and landscape photography. Fstoppers is excited to bring you the next extended adventure in the Photographing the World series as we head to the red deserts of the western United States and the exotic mountains of Patagonia in South America.
Necessary equipment
WHAT TO BRING
Participants must bring their own equipment, including:
Camera that allows shooting in RAW, preferably a DSLR or a "mirrorless";
At least one lens (see recommendations below).
Below you will find a list of my suggestions for material you can bring. In any case, if you don't have all the suggested material, don't worry, all you need is a camera and a lens. However, field trips will be organized and therefore you will only have to take the necessary equipment for each one. For some outings it may be necessary to walk for a few hours, carrying light weight significantly increases our comfort, reducing fatigue that can be the enemy of our creativity and concentration.
SUGGESTIONS
main equipment
To be able to photograph wildlife you need a lens, you can and should use the ones you already have. Ideally, you should always take 2 lenses, for example a 100-400 mm and a macro. If you want to take as little weight as possible, you can just take the 100-400mm or just the material for macro photography.
A tripod will allow you to be more comfortable inside the shelter when photographing, and I got clearer pictures as it effectively reduces any kind of disturbance caused by the movement of the camera while the photo is taken.
Additional batteries and cards are essential. We don't want to miss out on any great shots due to lack of battery or space.
To safeguard your stuff, you should bring rain protection, both for your backpack and your camera. Nothing very expensive is needed, in the case of backpacks they are usually already equipped with this type of protection and for the machine a simple plastic bag solves the situation.
Other important equipment
The participant must also take some snacks to eat throughout the day, and fundamentally take a canteen with water for a whole day in the field if necessary. However, these details will be determined output by output;
You must wear waterproof and warm shoes, and the clothing must not make noise when you move to avoid scaring the animals away, it must also be dark in color.
