BIRDWATCHING IN THE SALINES OF THE RIA DE AVEIRO OFFERS AN ENRICHING EXPERIENCE FOR NATURE LOVERS, PROVIDING THE OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOVER THE RICH AVIFAUNA THAT THRIVE IN THIS SALINE ENVIRONMENT, WHILE LEARNING MORE ABOUT THEIR IMPORTANCE AND APPRECIATING THEIR BEAUTY.

The Ria de Aveiro Salt Flats are an essential habitat for many bird species, functioning as a feeding, nesting and resting point for resident and migratory birds. On this observation tour, participants will have the opportunity to spot a variety of birds, including flamingos, gnats, spoonbills, herons and sandpipers. Participants will learn to identify different species, learn about their behavior and the ecological importance of salt marshes. We will visit the best observation points to maximize sightings and ensure a rewarding experience. This program is ideal for those who want to deepen their knowledge of birds and enjoy an immersive day in nature in a picturesque and tranquil setting.

Main species: Little Grebe, Great Cormorant (White-faced Cormorant), Little Egret, Grey Heron, Greater Flamingo, Osprey, Black-winged Stilt, Pied Avocet, Ringed Plover, Dunlin, Common Redshank, Common Greenshank, Common Sandpiper, Ruddy Turnstone, Mediterranean Gull, Black-headed Gull, Lesser Black-backed Gull, Common Tern, Common Kingfisher, White Stork, Western Marsh Harrier, Hoopoe, Eurasian Crag Martin, White Wagtail, Common Stonechat, Black Redstart, Common Chiffchaff, Common Starling, among others.

Other species: Common Scoter, Kentish Plover, Purple Sandpiper, Herring Gull, Short-eared Owl, Yellow Wagtail, among others.

Everyone is welcome, observation tours are aimed at anyone who wants to learn more about wildlife and observe the different species in a particular region. The guide will explain more about the different species we will observe, as well as their importance to ecosystems.

Before the tour, in the pre-tour briefing and throughout the walk, you will have the opportunity to discuss more about species observation. I will give you several tips to make the most of the tour and you are free to ask any questions.
